This is just the second World Series in history to pit two wild card teams against one another, the other time being in 2002 between the Giants and the Anaheim Angels. It is the first World Series to involve a team (let alone two) that played in the additional wild card game instituted in 2012. Because of this, the World Series winning team is guaranteed to set the record for most postseason victories in a single postseason with 12. Also, the World Series winner will be the first to ever have played in a play-in game (whether it is the wild-card game since 2012, or a tie breaker from 1995-2012) since the Division Series was added in 1995. Further, this is the first World Series to feature two teams who each won fewer than 90 games during the regular season since 1918.
The start date of October 21, 2014 is the first scheduled Tuesday start day for a World Series since 1990.
