TCF wanted someone to compile and post a record watch of Cam's rookie season because he is too lazy to do it himself. So here you go. I'm not perfect so please let me know if something is wrong or if I've missed something.
-Most passing yards by a quarterback in debut game (422)
-Most passing yards by a quarterback in first two games (854)
-Most passing yards by a rookie in a game (432)
-First quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in first career start
-First quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in first two career starts
-Sixth quarterback to throw for 400+ yards in back to back games
-First rookie in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in back to back games
-Fastest player to throw for 1,000 yards
-First player in NFL history with at least five rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns in his first five games
-First rookie in NFL history to throw for 10 touchdowns and run for 10 touchdowns in a season.
-Fourth rookie quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season.
-Most rushing touchdowns in single season by a quarterback (13)
-Rookie Touchdown record with 28 total touchdowns. The previous record was Charlie Connerly with 27, and Peyton Mannning was second with 26.
The record for most rushing touchdowns in a rookie season is held by Eric Dickerson. Dickerson rushed for 18 touchdowns in his rookie year in 1983. -Cam needs to average 2 Tds per game to break this record. It'll be close.
Cam now holds the record for rushing yards by a QB in his rookie season.
Old record was 552, by Vince Young. Newton now has 554 with 3 games to go.
-At his current rate (42.6 YDS/G) he will finish with 682 yds.
He is now only 167 passing yards shy of breaking Peyton Manning's rookie record.
-At his current rate (275 YDS/G) he will finish with 4,398 yds! Manning didn't surpass this number until his 3rd year.
Cam Newton can become the first QB in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 500 yards in a single season.
--Consider all the great athletic QBs that have come before him, Steve Young, Frank Tarkenton, Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick. Cam Newton will be able to accomplish something that these great QBs couldn't do their whole career, he will accomplish this in his rookie year!
CAM NEWTON IS ON PACE TO FINISH THE SEASON WITH ROUGHLY 4,400 YARDS PASSING, 700 YARDS RUSHING, and ABOUT 35 TOTAL TDS!
