The Washington Redskins will sign veteran defensive end Vonnie Holliday on Monday, according to a league source.

Holliday, who led Denver's defensive line last season with five sacks, has 60 in his career over 12 seasons with the Packers, Chiefs, Dolphins and Broncos.

Holliday, 34, was drafted by Green Bay in the first round, 19th overall, of the 1998 NFL draft out of North Carolina.

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan Wednesday called Clinton Portis the Redskins' current starting running back, while Shanahan's father -- head coach Mike Shanahan -- confirmed that the team has made a formal contract offer to yet another back: free agent Brian Westbrook.

My take: Portis entra al camp da titolare, Johnson sarà utilizzato durante le partite in drive specifici, Westbrook in campo nei terzi down e Parker tagliato dopo il training camp.

Una buona notizia arriva dal Redskins Park, Rocky McIntosh ha firmato il suo tender annuale per qualcosa di più di 1.7 milioni di dollari, pur non essendo esattamente rimasto soddisfatto nel non aver ricevuto un'estensione pluriennale. Carlos Rogers, invece, non ha ancora firmato nulla e si trova nella stessa situazione. Bene segnalare che ambedue hanno partecipato a molti degli allenamenti volontari, senza mai creare distrazione per la squadra. 

Paul Fanaika, OT, e Justin Medlock, K, hanno invece salutato la compagnia. Al prossimo minicamp, che inizierà domani, Graham Gano sarà l'unico kicker a roster.

Dall'articolo sul Post pubblicato oggi, emerge che Haynesworth avrebbe opportunamente aspettato la data del bonus prima di impiantare questi casini. Shanny ha sottolineato che a febbraio i Redskins erano già pronti a rilasciarlo, ovviamente scalando notevolmente quel bonus.

Dal minicamp arrivano notizie di grave disappunto, soprattutto da parte dei compagni di linea difensiva.

Io, dal mio punto di vista, dico solo che se ne vada a fare in c*lo.

Shanahan said he spoke with Haynesworth in February and gave Haynesworth permission at that time to find another place of employment. The team was willing to release Haynesworth if he would forgo the $21 million bonus he was due. But Shanahan said Haynesworth was only given until April 1 to locate another potential team.

"But on April 1, when we owed him a check for $21 million, we said, if you do take that check, we expect you to be the best defensive end, best nose tackle and if we played you at free safety, we'd expect you to be the best free safety -- even though he'd have to lose a little weight -- whatever position we wanted to play him at, that he'd do the best job he possibly could that would make him the best football player," Shanahan said.
