The Red Sox declined to make a $17.4-million qualifying offer to Mitch Moreland, their starting first baseman in 2017.

Moreland was the only key contributor from Boston's 2017 team eligible to receive a qualifying offer, and he is now a free agent. He earned $5.5 million this past season, so it's hardly surprising he wasn't extended a qualifying offer.

One of the best players in Red Sox history, Bobby Doerr, passed away Monday at the age of 99.

Doerr was the oldest living major league player prior to his passing. He is the only member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame to live to be 99 years old.

The second baseman played each of his 14 seasons with the Red Sox (1937-44, 1946-51) before retiring at age 33 due to a back injury. He also served as a scout for the Red Sox from 1957-66, as well as a first base coach and hitting instructor from 1967-69

A nine-time All-Star, Doerr batted .288 with 2,042 hits and 223 home runs, which at the time of his retirement was the third-highest home run total amassed by a second baseman. He still ranks in the top 10 among Red Sox players all-time in most offensive categories, including games, runs, hits, singles, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, walks, extra-base hits, total bases, and times on base.

costerebbe meno che firmare JD Martinez(non è FA prima del 2020),è un giocatore che batte per potenza e con più che buon contatto e ha splits pressochè identici in carriera casa-trasferta...
sono 30-35 HR pronti ad accadere,più tutti i doppi derivanti dal mostro verde di Boston per un giocatore che in carriera a Fenway batte .354/.425/.662 in 16 partite
per carità small sample size ma è esattamente il tipo di mazza destra che a Fenway produce e pure tanto

Sale alla fine è un trade che potreste anche aver vinto a lungo andare poi...all'epoca ricordo grosse mani nei capelli ma rischia di diventare un affare...
Abreu non è un 1B al livello dello SP che è Sale ma è proprio una delle cose che vi servono

ma probabilmente ci si inserisce nel solco di cui parlava Renè a fine stagione,con una Boston meno orientata alla OBP rispetto al passato
