Per la serie conosci chi porti a casa un rapido riepilogo sulle prese(ringraziando Renè e DF#7 per la pazienza e la gentilezza con cui hanno risposto alle mie domande da niubbo):
N°20: RHP Johnathan Crawford - 6'02" 205lbs DOB: 11/01/91
rene144 ha scritto:Had a rough season, but his stuff is still there. 92-94 with 70 sink. 60 SL, some basic feel for a CH. Rough jerky del hinders control, doesn't throw enough strikes. Reminds me of Derek Lowe or Chien-Ming Wang. Could have strong seasons or end up in pen, but needs a smoother del to succeed. Medium ceiling.
There's nothing like a no-hitter at a Regional to raise your profile a bit. Truth be told, Crawford would be high on radar screens anyway with his pure stuff, though some inconsistent performances during his junior season kept him from being among the top few college pitchers on this list. He has a plus fastball that can touch 96 mph and throws a hard breaking ball to go along with it, a combination he used well for Team USA over the summer. Crawford is strong with a good delivery and arm action. As big as his stuff is, though, he will have to learn to soften it up somehow in the future. Everything he throws is hard, and the ability to change speeds more effectively will be a necessary skill to refine going forward.
dal sito Tigers:
With a mid-90s fastball, a solid two-seamer and a late-breaking slider, the 21-year-old has a power pitcher's foundation.
The key for Crawford to become the Tigers' next pitching prospect is expected to be his ability to change speeds and round out his arsenal. Crawford was working on that this year with his changeup.
Crawford had mixed results this spring in his junior season at Florida, going 3-6 with a 3.84 ERA in 15 starts. He led the Gators with 86 2/3 innings, 37 walks and 69 strikeouts.
Crawford's sophomore year was his breakout season, when he produced a 6-2 record and a 3.13 ERA, including a 2.56 ERA in Southeastern Conference play. He also made the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
In the NCAA regionals, Crawford had his shining moment, tossing a no-hitter against Bethune-Cookman. He faced one batter over the minimum as he helped the Gators on their way to the College World Series for the second consecutive year.
N°39: RHP Corey Knebel - 6'03" 210lbs DOB: 11/26/91
rene144 ha scritto:Suspended twice this year by his team. Over 4 BB/9 in col. 91-96 with plus CB 78-83. Gets strikeouts, no third pitch. RP all the way. Hate drafting straight RPs in first 3-4 rds.
University of Texas relievers have often done well in the Draft. Huston Street is the obvious name that jumps out, and J. Brent Cox was a second-round pick a year after Street. Knebel appears poised to be the best Longhorns closer since then and was 13 saves shy of Street's career saves mark entering the 2013 season. The tall right-hander gets it done with a good two-pitch power combination, a fastball that hits the mid-90s and a downer curve with bite that's a true out pitch. Knebel has the "give me the ball" mentality you want to see in the 9th inning, and there's a chance he'll get to finish games at the next level, too.
dal sito Tigers:
For now, however, Knebel's future might not be in relief.
Knebel is a 6-foot-4 righty boasting a power fastball that sits in the mid-90s and tops out around 98 mph. He complements it with two different breaking balls, a 12-to-6 curveball in the low 80s and a slurve.
He also has dusted off a changeup he threw as a starter but put away in relief.
"I'll definitely have four pitches," Knebel said.
Knebel went 3-4 with a 3.38 ERA and nine saves this season, striking out 51 batters over 40 innings while allowing just 25 hits. Opponents batted just .179 against him. Add in 28 saves over his first two seasons.
Knebel was back to closing this spring, but missed games cost him, as he was suspended twice from the Longhorn squad this season. He missed a series against Kansas for a violation of team rules.
Knebel was also suspended for a series against Kansas State for providing a urine sample for a teammate's test
N°58: LHP Kevin Zimonek - 6'03" 200lbs DOB: 03/21/92
rene144 ha scritto:Ath, good body. Short AA, LTQ, 88-92, solid avg CH and CB in high 70s. AA, release point and velo point to RP, but he got some really excellent results. Touch and feel LHP who has an outside chance to stay in rotation as back-end LHP.
dal Draft Tracker:
A highly regarded prospect coming out of the Massachusetts high school ranks in 2010, Ziomek headed to Vanderbilt rather than sign with the D-backs, who drafted him in the 13th round that year. He had an inconsistent sophomore season as a starter for the Commodores, but threw well over the summer in the Cape Cod League, and that carried over into his junior season as Vandy's Friday starter. He has very good stuff from the left side, with a good three-pitch mix. His fastball can be plus at times, he has an outstanding changeup and an effective breaking ball to go along with it. There's some concern about his arm action, but Vandy lefties who perform well tend to do pretty well on Draft day. In the Cape, Ziomek made five starts, going 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA over 28 1/3 innings. He gave up just 22 hits and six walks while striking out 36.
dal sito Tigers:
MLB.com ranked him 33rd on its prospect list going in, coming off a 10-2 record and 2.05 ERA in 15 regular-season starts. He struck out 106 batters over 105 1/3 innings while holding opponents to a .190 batting average.
He's not a power pitcher, not with a fastball that tops out in the lower 90s, but his offspeed pitch and breaking ball give him a repertoire to get hitters out. He made an impression last year with a strong summer in the Cape Cod League, striking out 36 batters over 28 1/3 innings in five starts.
N°94: RHP Jeffrey Thompson - 6'06" 245lbs DOB: 09/23/91
rene144 ha scritto:Enormous RHP with plus velo and 55 SL. Excellent results as col SP, might be better suited for RP in pro ball, but has a chance. Definitely has the build and FB to sustain the workload.
rene144 ha scritto:I Tigers prendono uno grosso con la FB che si muove. Che strano.
dal Draft Tracker:
Thompson was a three-sport star at Floyd Central High School in Indiana and was recruited by college football coaches before choosing baseball. At 6-foot-6, 248 pounds, Thompson brings an imposing presence to the mound as a right-hander. He has dominated hitters this year and had a 28-inning scoreless streak in March. But scouts wonder how well his stuff will translate as a professional. Thompson's fastball sits in the low-90s, and he mixes it with a good slider and changeup. His fastball doesn't have much action, though his arm angle allows him to throw it downhill and create groundballs. Despite his size, Thompson has a loose, easy delivery.
