To acquire the rights for Swedish goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom the Batteries had to add a 2009 3rd round pick.
" We missed on him on Entry draft day.. and this was the opportunity to finally put our hands on him. Even if Jacob probably won't join us before 2010, we liked him way too much to not pull the trigger on this one, especially when immediate help is still going to be provided by Kronwall's addition. Nicklas brings a fat contract, but clearly fills a hole in our roster and we always liked him very much in the first place. He plays exactly the kind of game we covet here in New York. "
