Rw/lw is set by player shooting. Shoot left so left wing... When drafted the rule was not active and role wasn't updated when the rule started .

But when 70% of all players in the NHL are left shooters, I can see how this is a problem.

Maybe this can be revisited, as the balance of lw & rw shooters is skewed too far one way

From database, the ratio for w is 60 vs 40%
And that s why we have 2 free wing spots
